L05: Putting it All Together

As ambassadors for the Lord Jesus Christ, we should exemplify His qualities to everyone we teach by first denying ourselves ungodliness and worldly lusts which will lead us to the Lord. As members we should develop Christlike attributes in order to become effective members and missionaries of the restored gospel.

We should seek God with all our hearts which implies that we love God, that we keep his commandments calling upon His name in mighty prayer. We therefore increase our love for our Heavenly Father by demonstrating the love we have for Him by aligning our thoughts and actions with God’s words. The Savior has shown us the way and has set the perfect example for us and such that the restored gospel enables us become like Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Having faith in Christ means believing in Him as the Son of God, the Only Begotten of the Father in the Flesh. We then therefore accept Him as our personal Savior and Redeemer and follow His teachings. Then our sins can be forgiven through His Atonement. Faith in Him means we trust in Him and have confidence in Him.

Forgiveness
A man of the church in Corinth was excommunicated as result of fornication he committed. This man was severely castigated by members, and Paul wrote to the members to forgive him for he has suffered enough. We are instructed sufficiently to forgive one another as Christ our Savior forgave us our sins and atone for us.
“I think it may be the greatest virtue on earth, and certainly the most needed. There is so much of meanness and abuse, of intolerance and hatred. There is so great a need for repentance and forgiveness. It is the great principle emphasized in all of scripture, both ancient and modern”. Gordon B. Hinckley. If you are unwilling to forgive and forget then you are of not God. Every member of the church is thought to forgive one another so we can also be forgiven as we press on to do our best to be with our Father in Heaven. President Hinckley said “The great Atonement was the supreme act of forgiveness”.

Putting It All Together

As we study the scriptures Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said we must repeatedly read the scriptures “Another reason for repeated reading of the scriptures is that many of the prophecies and doctrinal passages in the scriptures have multiple meanings. As we repeatedly read the scriptures more meanings of the scriptures comes to mind which helps us to have more insight about the gospel. He also said “the principle that scriptures can have multiple meanings also helps us appreciate the fact that a single scripture may be given to us in more than one set of words”.

As we read and desire to share the gospel, what was shared will produce a powerful desire for righteousness in their lives as well as ours. “I hope no person we approach with an invitation to hear the message of the restored gospel feels that we are acting out of any reason other than a genuine love for them and an unselfish desire to share something we know to be precious” Elder Dallin H Oaks.
